TOWN AND COUNTRY TRAINING

Town and Country Training for students,
pastors, spouses

A large percentage of graduates seeking a pastorate will find themselves in a smaller community and church . . . Are you prepared?

TACT classes will help you sharpen your skills and increase your effectiveness. They are specialized, accredited classes for those who anticipate going into town and country ministry . . . or who are already serving there.

All classes are now offered fully online for those who choose that option.

CULTURAL IMMERSION

A key part of the Town and Country Training Program (for students who are here in-person) is “cultural immersion.” Rather than just talking about the Town and Country culture of rural America, students in the TACT Program are placed right in the cultural context. The entire course is taught in a facility on the edge of a small town surrounded by patches of woods and grain fields. In the “Ministering in the Town and Country Church” class, for example, when learning about the interactions of church and farm life, the class will be conducted in a barn, machine shed, or feedlot where students see, feel, and smell the topic, not just hear or read about it. Students visit town and country contexts, talking and eating with the folks who actually live, work, and attend church there.

CERTIFICATION

Rural America is crying for people who minister with devotion, passion, knowledge, and skill. Just as there are people with commitment and expertise serving in areas such as urban ministry, youth ministry, camping ministry, and foreign missions, so rural America will benefit from an increasing army of workers who are intentional about their own personal ministry growth.

To encourage rural ministry expertise and reward those who are striving to achieve it, RHMA (the TACT Program sponsor) offers certification.

Requirements:

  1. • Bachelor’s degree
  2. • Successful completion of all four TACT classes

Received:

Upon successful completion of all four classes, a certificate suitable for framing will be awarded by RHMA.

Benefits:

  1. • Acquire much rural ministry expertise that will sharpen your skills and increase your
  2.     effectiveness.
  3. • Enhance your resume and credibility.

Cost:

There is no additional cost for certification.

TUITION

Tuition, For-Credit Students

Seminary students registering through their schools do not pay a separate tuition fee. They simply pay their regular per-hour tuition fee to their school and the school pays a fee to the TACT Program. In this way, any grants or scholarships the student may have can also fund TACT classes without additional paperwork. There are no additional fees for the cultural immersion components.

Tuition, Non-Credit Students

There are a limited number of spots available for those who want to audit a course. The fee is $150.00 for the week.

DENOMINATIONAL LEADERS

New to the Town and Country Context?

As a denominational leader, are you new to the town and country context, or do you need to provide pastoral training for others under your supervision who are?

For Individuals

In addition to training for academic credit, the TACT Program also offers the course “Ministering in a Town and Country Context” in a not-for-credit format. Books are recommended but not required and there are no writing assignments. This course will help jump-start the ministries of pastors and leaders who are academically trained but not familiar with the culture of small-town America. Whether you want training for yourself to pass on to those you supervise, or want to send a new pastor from one of your town and country congregations, this course will help connect academic training with contextual understanding.

This course is offered in Morton, Illinois, on a periodic basis.
